The Heretical Apocrypha

Apocrypha means 'things that are hidden'. It is sacred text, thought of as an addendum to the Old Testament. Many believe that it was kept hidden from the general population because it was deemed heretical So, that means that I had to read it when stumbling on a copy at the local used book store.

What I read last night that really struck me:

Champion the widow, defend the cause of the fatherless, give to the poor, protect the orphan, provide clothing for those who have none; care for the weak and the helpless, and do not mock at the cripple; watch over the disabled. and bring the blind to the vision of my radiance. Keep both old and young safe within your walls.
     -2 Esdras 20 21 23
It was the simplicity and directness that affected me. No proverbs, parables, nothing that was abstract. Easy to understand directions that tell us exactly what to do.

And yet, so difficult.

When we want to give to the poor, we are ambushed with doubt. Will the person use the money for drugs? Am I being a sucker by giving to someone who simply doesn't feel like working? I made this money working hard for a living. Why do you get to sit on a corner with a cardboard sign and expect me to fork over my pay?

Giving to charities also has insecurities. There are so many that give a huge portion of contributions to sales, marketing, administration, CEOs. What proportion of my money actually gets to the needy?

My advice:
1.  Stay away from panhandlers asking for money. Rather, when you see them, send off a vision of support. You can picture in your mind the person receiving a paycheck, living in house, eating a nutritious meal from their own kitchen. Thoughts become things. Your vision is stronger than you think.

2.  The best way to deal with NPOs is to do some research. Not everything has to be done spiritually. That internet is so damned useful. Find groups that support what you care about, and then research how much of your money goes to administration, and how much to the actual cause.

3.  Practice love-heart meditations. As you go into the sanctity of your meditative state, direct your attention to your heart. Feel it receiving Universal Love. Breathe it into your body, always filling your self first.

Next, let it flow out of your heart and spill out to your immediate surroundings. Keep it going to include your room, house, town, as far as you want it to go. Now ask it to give extra focus to whatever cause you desire. Could be the refugees in your state, abused animals, neglected seniors. Whomever you want to 'feel the love' will automatically benefit from your attentions--they won't even know what hit them.

For those people you do know that are going through a challenging time, take the time to do the good stuff for them. Bring on the casseroles for the recently widowed. Offer to take your neighbor's kids to the park when she has a new baby screaming-literally-for her attention. Mow the lawn of an elderly or sickly neighbor. Good deeds are in your face every moment, just waiting to be done.

We are all busy, but volunteering your time adds value to your life. This is one thing I have been rotten at. I've recently started going to a Quaker church. They are incredibly gung-ho with doing charitable acts. My intention now is to join in on the fun.

In these times of turmoil, doing for others is more needful than ever.

Please leave a comment below as to what you've been doing, have done, or are contemplating doing to match the statements from the Apocrypha. I would love to be inspired by your actions and know that anyone reading this will also.

Us And Them Is the Pits

There is a form of 'us and them' that has been brewing in the US: so-called elite liberals, and back-to-basics conservatives. It is how Trump got elected. He saw the gap, and widened it. Then he gathered up supporters and wedged his way into the Electoral College. What we need to focus on now is the commonalities of liberals and conservatives.

In the NY Times yesterday, there were short interviews with women as to why they voted for a man who excuses his sexist words as 'locker room' talk. The women sounded sane, and wanted change. I wondered what they wanted change from. What does 'Make America Great Again' mean? What time period? Aren't we great now?

And guess what? The only way that I would ever be able to get to the heart of what they mean, would be for us to communicate. I want to hear what they thinking. I want to understand so that we can work together to create a society that benefits all of us. Because I know that the us and them thing gets us exactly no-where.

One of the women said that she was being called a racist because she voted for Trump. And her reply is, "Wait a minute, you don't even know me."

I felt the same the other day when I read a posting on Facebook comparing conservatives to liberals. With my views, I am considered a liberal. But the definition on FB was not me. For example, it stated that liberals are vegetarians and therefore don't want to allow anyone else to eat meat. I am a vegetarian, but don't force my agenda on others. One of my sons is a omnivore and I buy him ham slices for his school lunches. We talked about it and I agreed to buy humanely raised, organic meat.

That is just one example of where the FB definitions were so wrong. It made assumptions about me that were all false. A commonality between me and the Trump supporter--not wanting to be lumped into a single, shallow definition of who we are based on one trait. We want to be heard, understood, and recognized for who we are.

Another thing we share is wanting a better life for ourselves and our children. In the capitalist U.S., this often translates to a good job that can support our needs with some extra for play time. However, many of the jobs that once sustained our middle class are being threatened by automation.

So what do we do next? What is the best way for our country to provide for all of us? More education, especially in math and science? Becoming world leaders in alternative energy sources? More research of careers that will continue to boost us as an economic power house of the world?

To me those sound like wise choices. The only way I will know what can work in your city is through open dialogue, discovering what you can do, discussions of what we can make money at in a global market.

And, once again, the only way to hear one another is to figure out what will work for all of us.

The other biggie is the environment. Actually, this is the biggest issue. If we destroy our water and air, none of these other concerns will matter much at all. That gives us another chance to connect.

Years ago, I dated a lumberjack. Yes, me. The liberal, tree-hugging, spiritual, vegetarian was in love with a logger. But he opened my eyes to a brand new way of seeing tree-cutting. He was against clear cutting, for obvious long-term reasons: no forest = no jobs, more mudslides, and a heck of a while to wait for regrowth. He advocated selective tree cutting.

He further explained that nature utilized natural fires brought about by lightening. This meant that every so often, the forest would be wiped out in certain areas. The ashes would fertilize the ground, and regrowth would be experienced. However, many environmentalists and property owners are against any tree cutting. But when this happens, there are too many trees for a forest to maintain and to stay healthy.

I would not have known all of this had we not had some great discussions. We both had a love of forests. We had a common ground that enhanced our 'crazy to others' relationship.

Buying into the 'us and them' syndrome weighs us down like a T-Rex in a tar pit. Common ground needs to be established through communication, and mutual respect.

What you do effects me. What I do effects you. There is no separation.

Animal Masters

In my meditations this morning,  I received a message about animals. They are our guides and we are like children to them. We have the order of things mixed up. We need to be looking to them on how to behave.

Dogs teach us about loyalty. Hummingbirds not to judge others. Ravens to be clever and warn of danger. Hawks and birds-of-prey to keep a broad view of every subject. The list continues. To get a great idea of each animal's teachings, please pick up the Animal Medicine cards by Jamie Sams and David Carson. The cards and book have been a guiding force in my life for many years.

Animals do not judge us, even when we are treating them as commodities; inflicting them with torture and humiliation. They understand the words of Jesus, "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do." This is yet another lesson we could be adopting from them, the ability and beauty of forgiveness.

This is not to say that we should continue to harm them. We can not stand around, inflict or allow pain and then yelp out, "Oh, gosh, I didn't know any better." Accepting unjust, unkind ways of treating those physically or mentally below us is wrong. We all know that.

If you are eating meat, then buy from companies that raise animals humanely. Your buying power is strong. Use it to bend the farms toward practices that respect lives.

Yes, I am a vegetarian. But that doesn't mean that I expect you to become one also. If you do decide to make the switch, not only will I applaud your decision, I'll send my favorite recipes. We can have a tofu grill night!

Be thankful for the life that was given for your dinner. Be humbled by the gifts of their meat. This switch in attitude on your part will make it difficult for you to accept animal cruelty on farms, wild lands, and for domestic companions. The more people who make this mental shift, the more peace there will be on earth for every creature.

It is time to recognize that animals are available for us to learn from. Each has an inherent, built-in message. They teach through the example of how they live their life. We need to alter our view from that of Masters of the Universe, to Students of the Animal King/Queendom.

They are master teachers, waiting for us students to be ready to learn.

May the joy of the butterfly flutter around you today,

2017, Acceptance Faith Recognition

In 2017: Accept where we are, have faith in love over-riding greed, recognize that all U.S citizens share commonalities. Trump gained his presidency by exploiting fear. Now is the time for us to latch on and embrace all of the positive, spiritual lessons we have mastered.

The new year will bring harsh times. A president who denies Climate Change and scoffs at the EPA, foretells doom for our already troubled earth. Business and development are his priorities, not the lives of U.S. citizens. The shadow of his ego is on the horizon.

Acceptance
However, this does not mean that we need to roll over and play opossum dead for the next four years. Acceptance does not translate to do nothing. It means that we accept where we are at, and then move forward from that spot.

Faith
From the immense and quickly obtained following that Bernie Sanders gained, we learned that more people want love, support and care for others than those who cherish greed. The scale has tipped in our favor. It was the outdated bureaucratic systems, and ego, that managed to gain the upper hand. But that is a temporary thing. Have faith that the energy of more people filled with positive thoughts will prevail over fear and ignorance.

Recognition
Most Trump supporters are not racist, sexist bigots. They simply want a better life for themselves and their families. What we need is to not make this an us versus them thing. Rather, we need to find our common ground of what we most desire and deserve: Love, laughter, support, respect, and the pursuit of happiness. Basics of food, clothing, shelter. A good quality of life. Safety.

Recognize in your heart that we are all in this together.

What we can do on our spiritual path:

In your daily meditations, send out love to the environment, refugees, homeless people, abused animals--anyone and everything that needs your love. Imagine the love within you overflowing out of your heart. Picture it flowing to your immediate surroundings. Then allow it to grow. From your room, to your house, neighborhood, city, state, country and then the world. This takes time, so allow for the space to be able to practice this World Love meditation.

Don't scoff away loving meditations as doing nothing. Your thoughts are more powerful than you think. Daily, focused love energy uplifts us all.

2017 is bringing more people than ever before into an Aware, Awake, Alive humanity. Positive changes are brewing from our hearts, thoughts and actions. Life is still wonderful.

Love and Light have no rival. They are the core of our being. Our true reality.

And so it is,

Debts Forgiven

A friend yesterday explained to me the origin of the word forgive. It started with the banks. When a client owed money and was near death, the bank would forgive the loan. The reasoning was that the efforts to collect money from the debtor was not worth it. Forgiven.

Webster Dictionary:
debt 1. something that is owed or that one is bound to pay to or perform for another. 2. a liability or obligation to pay or render something. 3. a sin, trespass.

In the Lord's Prayer, we ask:
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

We need to let go of our desire to hold on to what we feel that other's owe to us. Cut those strings of what we should be getting. It's not worth the effort. Likewise, we should not feel obligated to perform to the expectations of others.

When someone says or does something that offends me, I can hold a grudge, seek revenge, scream in rage. These are all reactions; ways of holding on to the trespasses. They feel icky, yucky, and weighted down with nastiness. The outcome will most likely spiral into more confrontation, negative energy, and a tie to the person in an unhealthy, energetic link.

Like Charlie Brown telling Lucy that she's wrong. She'll scream 'Block Head' in his face so hard, he'll be flipped backwards.

Healthy responses to offense include talking, walking away from a confrontational person, and sending positive energy out to the offender.

What is taken as a personal attack could be a big, giant, silly misunderstanding. Rather than getting upset, and stomping myself into a two-year old temper tantrum, I can ask the person what they meant. Because I may have taken offense to something that was not intended to be offensive. Explanations of how I perceived the words, mixed with clarification from the other person can save loads of grief. Block Head Bricks of grief.

If the offender had meant to offend, and is being unreasonable, then it may be a time for you to remove yourself from the situation. Make like a banana and split. Sticking around to make him behave in a way that you want, is holding on to a trespass.

Sending positive energy to a negative situation or person can be difficult, but do-able. The first time I did this, I was blown away at the results.

I was arguing with someone. Then stopped, took a breath, and sent energy from my heart. The other person, unaware of what I was doing, changed. He jerked backwards a tiny bit, and stopped talking. Then, like a ray of sunlight bursting out during a hardcore winter snowstorm, our attitudes changed. We talked like our age, not our shoe size (as Prince the singer would say).

Forgiveness is not to be something we dangle over ourselves or others as a 'feel-good' emotional drama. But rather, a simple way of letting go of what does not serve us.

Because those debts get awfully heavy to hang onto.

Travel Within For Help

Trusting in Trump is like trusting that an abusive husband really has 'changed his ways' because he says so. When he takes over, he will tell people whatever it takes to keep down protests and win his favor. Then, once all is back to quiet contentment, the changes that have the possibility of bringing down our nation in economic and environmental issues will creep forth.

But I am not here to predict our gloom. What I want to say is that the changes that are needed to ensure abundance for all, will come from individuals, and groups of positive people. It will be from the ground up that life will continue.

We don't all have to strap ourselves to redwood trees and oil rigs; although this will be needed at certain times. What we can do as individuals is whatever we can to bring awareness, light and love to ourselves first, and then let it shine to those around us.

Every morning, my email is filled with requests from agencies asking for money to protect the environment, animals, and human rights. But trying to save each one is like fighting a wildfire with a single extinguisher at the edge of the fire. There are too many 'herpes sores' to heal with one container of balm; too many human made boo-boos for one box of bandages.

The root of the problem is the disconnection of humans from one another, the earth, and animals. Too many people don't get that we are all connected. If I had a child who was stolen away from me, and then discovered him sewing a new blouse in a sweat shop, would I buy the blouse? Of course not.

In writing that, I recognize that I contribute to child exploitation. I drive my car and contribute to Climate Change. I eat eggs and am a part of a system that destroys male chickens.

Beyond trying to reduce my carbon imprint, what can I do? What can we do? Honestly, I don't really know. My gut tells me to support anything that will bring awareness to as many individuals as I can; through the gifts that I have been given. These include being an empath, a mother, and a writer.

I help individuals by 'seeing' their blocked energy and being a facilitator to open pathways for release. Becoming the best mother possible through parenting classes, reading child-rearing books, and learning to listen to my boys rather than react. All this and more I did in the desire to raise two individuals who would live positive lives. As a writer, I ask myself if what I am presenting has an embedded message of something good. Could be laughter, how to access higher spiritual paths, or help children discover their own powers of strength.

My best advice to you is to look within and ask what you can offer to the world that will bring us to our highest good. Set as a goal the advancement of people to a higher spiritual level. One in which we all recognize that there is no us and them, that hurting the earth only hurts us. And that on an economic level, gaining quick profits destroys the economy in the long-run.

Go within, ask for the best possible way for you to help the world, and then do it.

Centers and the Past

Having attended Spiritual Center Churches for years and enjoying them, I had been feeling the desire to try something different. What I was hearing from the minister were lectures that I already felt I knew. They were still beneficial for several reasons:
1. Even if I had learned what was said previously, reminders keep me in check.
2. It is wonderful to hear the same concepts from different viewpoints--keeps the mind active.
3. The energy of so many like-minded people all in one place is empowering.
4. Activities and friendships and good feelings abound in Spiritual Centers.

By the way, most Spiritual Centers fall under: Religious Science, Science of Mind, Unity, Unitarian Universalists, and Spiritualists.

I highly recommend trying one or all of the above. You are guaranteed to meet some friendly, open-minded, loving people.

Again, I was ready for a change. At a recent Street Fair, the Friends, or Quakers, had a booth dedicated to informing people about two Propositions up regarding the Death Penalty, and educate people about their church. I decided to take the plunge and go for it.

There is no leader at their weekly meetings. Participants sit in a circle and meditate. If someone feels so inclined, they may stand up and divulge what they may have heard in their meditation. Generally, this is one or two people, and not something you would do right away.

The impact of gathered energy all open to receiving messages from an inner voice is deep. I was able to focus so well, that I went to a past life. This was one I had visited on previous occasions, but this time was different.

Here is the story of what I had seen before:
I was about ten years old living in an ancient Asian country with the name of Xuan. My father had huge gambling debts and had sold me into slavery to pay them off. A wagon with a bamboo cage came and took me away from my family. My mother was screaming in grief as I was carried away. My father stood back and watched helplessly.

From this past life, I made the decision to choose the parents that I have in this lifetime. A father with addiction issues who did not fulfill his father role. A mother I was never close to, so that I would not feel the grief that I had felt in the Asian life time.

This past life knowledge gave me the ability to understand the parents of today were fulfilling roles for me ( and I assume I was doing the same for them). It gave me a stronger platform to work on being a forgiving, loving person. But still, I struggled.

At the Friend's meditation this week, I returned to that past life. This time I came to a scene in which I had already been taken away. My father was crouched inside our hut, utterly depressed about what he had done. Having had no idea that he was sorry for his mistakes, and missed me, made it easier to forgive him. Somehow, through time and space, he felt my presence. I sent my love. I can clearly see his face light up in joy.

Soon we were surrounded by friends and family. I don't know how, but they too saw me. With both parents loving me and holding me, I felt a long sought for sense of peace.

So I hope from this blog post you can have learned of two things: The option of Spiritual Centers and their worth. How huge of an impact past life knowledge can assist you on your spiritual path.

God is love.

Enlightened Bowls

Affirmations work. When we state what we want, believe it to be true, and expect results, it will happen. The Law of Attraction is every bit as real as the Law of Gravity.

However, what I have found is that the positive thing that you were wanting comes attached to something that you don't want.

For example: For months I did affirmations for a five bedroom house in a great neighborhood. Through a series of events, I met with a man who could have been my husband, had we followed through with what was started over twenty years ago. He owns a five bedroom house in a great neighborhood. BUT it is in a city that I don't want to live in. BUT my boys would have been moved away from their friends and school. BUT the man was not in a time in his life that he would have welcomed more kids moving in with him.

YES, the affirmation came true. BUT, it did not work for us.

The reason is that I would have been at the same frequency. I would be put in a situation feeling not quite happy or content with the change.

Another example is the affirmation for more money. Receiving more money generally comes with receiving more things to pay for. Like an unexpected check in the mail for five hundred dollars, followed with the need for the same amount in car repairs.

The focus needs to be on enlightenment and love and awareness.

Please note that I have yet to experience full enlightenment in this earth life time. It is my goal; my work-in-progress. I will be sharing what has been downloaded to me through meditation and readings from those people more enlightened that I.

Enlightenment is exposing the light that is already in you. Through years of meditation, I have been experiencing more and more light moments. My eyes will be shut so all is black. Then I will have glimpses of light on either side of my head, from the inside.

It's really cool.

In order for me to have come to see this inner light, I have been practicing meditation on a daily basis for over ten years. I vary from fifteen minutes to two hours.

As you become more enlightened, your bowls will naturally be filled with abundance. No Shadows haunt total enlightenment. The sun carries no shadow.

God is love,

Political Shadows

Recently, I watched a video in which Dr. Deepak Chopra explained the popularity of Donald Trump via our Shadow side. For those not familiar with the term, it is our Dark Side. The side of Darth Vader, Voldemort, and Jabba the Hut.

On the masculine, it is our primitive depths of fear and anger. It is our ego, shouting at us from within that there is much to be afraid of in this world. That anger is the appropriate action to take. The Shadow side thrives on keeping 'us' away from 'them'. It promotes reaction over response.

What has happened over the years is that we have been suppressing our shadow. We give it cookie crumbs and keep it locked in our inner dungeons. But shadows get longer with suppression. The only way to release fears is to admit that they exist, and then show them compassion, love and light.

The best example that I can give right now is the new topic of allowing transgenders to use the male or female restroom that they choose, versus the one that matches their gender. When I heard about this, my initial fear was of the ways that it could be distorted by creeps. Men posing as women could feign being a transgender and gain access to the Women's Room. He could peek through slots of the bathroom cubicles and spy on women. And, what about the gym locker room? Women walking around naked.

But if I bring up my concerns, I fear being labeled as anti-transgender. But I believe that the true way to get through this new concept is through open dialogue. Shedding light on the subject. Acknowledging that people have valid fears.

What tends to happen in the U.S. is that issues are seen in black and white. For or against. Us versus them. This attitude suppresses fears and feeds the Shadow.

The grown-up way is to listen to both sides. Shed light on the subject. Only from there can compromises, trust, respect, and changes conducive to both sides be found.

Now, going back to Trump. He is feeding off our fears of ISIS, Syrian refugees, muslim extremists, etc. But feeding into our fears does not make the fears diminish, it makes them stronger. There are always things to fear in this world.

While Trump is the masculine side of the Shadow, it is my belief that Hillary Clinton is the feminine side. What I see in her is manipulation, deceptions, corruption, schemes and plotting. Think of the Emperor, Palpatine, from Star Wars. The face he originally shows to the Republic is one of a wise governor, out to help the people. But over time, we discover that he is not as he seems.

What is tricky about the female side of the Shadow, is that it is so good at hiding it's true nature. It is the ultimate chameleon of humanity.

The feeding of this side of the Shadow is brought about by not questioning the actions of those in authority. By accepting whatever information is given to us. It's easier that way. Life is very comfortable for people in the U.S. Well, at least it is for the white middle-class. Why rock the boat by investigating beyond FOX news? But ignoring bad behavior in children and politicians does not alter it. Only allows it to get worse.

What fear and ignorance, Shadow suppression, and staying in our comfort zone has brought us is two presidential nominees that could both be disastrous for our country and ultimately the world.

My personal choice is to vote for Jill Stein. I bring this up not as a way to promote her campaign, but rather to encourage you to vote for whom you believe will bring us closer to having a nation that you want to live in. Investigate your inner shadows. Why are you supporting a particular candidate? Pour light into your judgement.

Vote and live from a place within that recognizes that you have Shadows. With the exception of a dozen or so people, we all do. The recognition of your shadow is where you can start examining it.

After the recognition, the best way that I can tell you to dispel the Shadow is through light. I do this through daily meditation. This extends to my being better at responding and living in the moment through out the day.

Best wishes on lightening your Shadow. No more suppressing!

The Bible In Four Sentences

For a while now, I have been wanting to learn more about the bible from a New Age, spiritual perspective. Tonight I got my chance.

Steve Cooper gave a lecture tonight in which he explained the bible in four sentences. As I was not taking notes, this will have go from memory:

1. The Garden of Eden is Paradise, innocence, creation.
2. As God is everything, the eating of the apple is about the fall of God.
3. The resurrection is our rebirth.
4. Armageddon is the death of the ego.

Okay, so now I don't have to read the Bible.

Actually, funny as it may sound for a spiritual New Age person as I am, I have had a desire lately to read it. But, I want to read a version that is as close to the original writings as I can get. Who do I ask about this? Any takers?

Now, back to the lecture. In listening to what Steve Cooper had to say--and the man is brilliant by the way--I was struck with two things: 1. the complete realization that I know less than I thought I did about anything and 2. I want to know more.

Starting with: why the fall of God? I mean, if God all ready had all the knowledge, what is the purpose of him/her 'falling'?  Was he/she bored and wanting something to do to fill the time?  Are we here in his/her image as some elaborate game? Are our spirit selves hovering above us watching us play at this earth game, eating popcorn and enjoying our struggles as live theater? The ultimate reality show?

So far, no questions about the resurrection stuff. I'm sure I'll think of something to confuse myself with in the future, though.

The death of the ego as Armageddon, that is a good one. It makes sense. As the ego is about fear, it will be all about being scared of this day and fill our hearts with dread about what is to come. It does not want to die. It will go out kicking and screaming in the ultimate world wide temper tantrum.

Next question: is Armageddon something that we are all going through in stages or will it hit in one big swoop on 'Judgement Day'.

Okay, now that one I have been working with for awhile, in my mind and through meditations and spiritual guide downloads.  Worldwide, we are all going through spiritual growth and ego deaths, individually and as countries against one another. At this time in history, fear is more intense, there are more people, and there are more weapons than ever before. Also, social media allows us to see what is going on in every country with out governmental filters.  And as there is more violence, there is also more peace than ever before. The dichotomy of love and fear is pronounced and explosive.

The more there are of people who are choosing love over fear, and are awakening to our connection to everything on the planet, the less violent Armageddon will be.  More love equals less violence.  Just a simple math problem.

In reading over what I have written, I bring up mucho questions and few answers. An unrequited love. But it's where I am at, so at least it is genuine.

That's all I understand about this bible end of the world as we know it stuff that I have for now.  If anyone has any more knowledge, please share.

State of Gratefulness

When I asked my guides from the Akashic Records how I will benefit from being thankful I am being told that the Universe knows what things on earth will make me even more thankful to be here. The Universe knows this better than I do. When I try to direct and force my life, then I am using my brain which is limited. The brain is a great tool for utilizing the knowledge of the world, but it is limited by it's own perspective and what it has already done.

The Universe knows everything, and everything about me. Including my desires and what will bring about more joy for me and all of those connected to me.

So in staying in a state of thankfulness, I am bringing on the vibration that tunes me into what the Universe can bring to me that I will automatically, inherently be deeply thankful for because it will be the things that I really want but have all of these issues with feeling deserving and wondering how what I want could possibly be brought about. I don't know how these things will be brought out. And I don't need to know. All I have to do is stay in the vibration of thankfulness.

Then, from that state, I can sit back and watch the show. Like my own personal reality show, discovering and watching how The Universe miraculously brings about things that I will be thankful for. I can laugh with giddiness as the Universe uncovers a plate of the most delicious things that I have ever tasted that I never even knew I would enjoy.  My own personal smorgasbord of yummies by my own chef who know my tastes better than I do. An expert in my taste buds.

Another factor to this, and this is a biggie, is that I have to have faith that what I am being presented with is perfect for me. That the Universe is working in my favor. That it is taking the time to add the right spices and herbs to make me the ultimate in delicious meals for my palate.

Also, in preparing foods, sometimes there will be things given to me that I need to try that are preparing me for the main course.  Maybe a sip of bitters to cleanse my mouth for the wine that is coming. I have to trust that it is all for the ultimate good of me.

Which feeds into the subject of being worthy.  Why would the Universe go to so much trouble to make me happy? Me? Little insignificant Heather Leigh. There are much bigger needs pressing on the planet. People who are deserving more than I. Hmmm.

Seems to me it must be something to do with unconditional love.

Which makes me want to give back to the Universe by being the best possible vessel of love for God to use. Maybe this whole process is a win-win for everything and everyone on the planet. Well, I am going to make the hugest effort of my life to be in and stay in a state of thankfulness. I am excited to be a part of the results and to see what happens.

Walking the Labyrinth

Tonight I went on my first spiritual labyrinth walk. It was held at a cathedral downtown in their Great Hall. I must admit that my expectations were low as it is just a circular labyrinth painted on the floor.  Tea candles surrounded the circle at regular intervals. On a table by the door were plastic-coated blue cards with a white outline of an angel on the back of each one.

Arriving on time, there was only one other person in the room. After introducing ourselves, we found that neither of us had ever been on an L walk and didn't know what to do but wonder if we had come on the wrong night.  As the common theme in any big city, we blamed traffic for the lateness of other people and assumed we were at the right place at the right time.

The leader of the walk bounced in with a cheerful yet calm disposition and soon had us lighting the candles. As her lighters barely worked, and my book of matches lit one candle per match, our journey began before entering the L--taking the time to slowly ready ourselves for a journey.

We were encouraged to pick a card from the table, and then one of the books that went with the cards. The card that my hands were led to revealed the word JOY with a beautiful flower as a background. That seemed like a positive sign from the Universe. And after looking up Joy in the accompanying book, I found that I was correct! It stated that I was entering a time of great inner joy in my life--burdens are lifting. Yey!

After reading about my spiritual message from the Universe, I ventured forth on to the labyrinth. The leader had ensured us that however we traveled through the walk was the perfect way for us.  There was no wrong way.

I can't say that in viewing the labyrinth from the outside that I was entirely skeptical, but I was not overly impressed. I mean, really, it was just a big black outline of a circle with an entrance, a long winding maze to the center, and then turn around and come back. The only thing that looked half-way promising as far as inspiration goes was the center with a few pillows for sitting in meditation. Ho hum.

But, always game for the spiritual adventure, I took my place at the entrance.

Okay, now, it was weird and funny to me because as soon as I entered I felt joy and peace and love. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time from happiness. Weird, right? I mean, it's just a maze. So, I kept walking and started to receive all these messages from my spiritual guides. It was all about loving others.

Then this mantra came into my head that was going before I realized that I was thinking it: I am joy. Oh, yea, now that is a good mantra.

It must have taken me about 15 minutes to slowly walk barefooted along the thin, methodically winding path that eventually brought me to the center. The entire way, I was downloading beautiful, loving messages about peace, love, abundance, joy, and happiness.  And this may sound silly, but my white feet looked so pretty taking each step in front of me.

In the middle of the labyrinth, I stopped to meditate. Now that I think about it, it must have been a great meditation, because I have no recollection of any thoughts when I was there. Funny how meditation is considered successful when there is no thinking involved.

After the mindless meditation, I left the center and retraced my steps. Few thoughts ran through my head on the way out.  This was a time of absorbing what I had heard on the way in.

Leaving the labyrinth, I took the time to bow with palms pressed together and offer my Namaste to the experience. The energy that was held within that silly painted circle on the ground was a blessing to be thankful for.

Also to thank was the leader. I gave her my thanks on the way out and was invited to come again next month. Every time I can, I told her.

What a wonderful thing to be able to guide people on. I am so thankful that I did not listen to my pre-judgement of the simple circle painted on the hall floor of an old church.  The journey may have appeared simple from the outside, but once in, the beautiful profundity was immediately apparent.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Universe, for another great peaceful adventure!

Why An Angel Visit?

Last night an angel came into my room and I don't know why.  It filled the ceiling and was just like what I've seen in books and movies. It was all white, whiter than the white in normal fabrics, with a long flowing gown, wings and a golden hand held harp. The harp surprised me as I thought that was something from the movies also.

I asked why it had come and received no reply. Having just completed a nightly prayer of support for my aunt Judy, I thought perhaps the angel had come to tell me something of her health.  But there was no answer--at least none that I could understand.

Whether the angel is male or female in not applicable because there was no sexual identity.  Calling an angel 'it' seems demeaning, but I have no better pronoun.

The angel hovered above my bed and stayed there. In seeing such otherworldly entities, the seeing (for me) is not from the eyes that show me this computer screen. Perhaps if I were a painter, I could illustrate better what I saw.  Entities that lived on the earth I can see as they were in human form. But things of the spirit world I see with what is described as the third eye. At least that is what I believe it is. How do I know how I see something that is not seen by others? Things that I do not understand myself? It is like describing colors to a person who has been blind from birth.

Mostly what I felt was curiosity as to why the angel had come. When doing massage, or energy work, the entities that I have seen had a purpose in coming that I understood. Like a loved one who has passed on and come back to send a message of comfort. Or a negative manifestation that is leaving a body. I've seen people with what I call 'transition angels' standing behind them when they are going through major changes in life. But I don't know that these are actual angels--could be a spirit guide.

Once I saw what I thought was an angel when awakening from sleep.  That time between sleep and wakefulness when we sometimes catch a glimpse of an entity, or hear them talking. Now I question myself as to whether or not she was an actual angel. She was flying away from my body on my left side. Her gown held every color in a pattern similar to mermaid scales. The hair was long and flowing but try as I might I can't remember the color. The glimpse of her was fleeting. As soon as my mind awakened my vision of her disappeared.

This angel was different from all that I had experienced. I am also surprised to find that it looked so much like the typical angel that one might find on top of a Christmas tree. And it was so big. It covered the entire ceiling, which is about fifteen feet long.

The things I know about angels is that they have never experienced their own lifetime on earth, that they can not help you until you ask for help, and that each person has one or two that watch over them throughout their time on earth. This is not much to go on.  But maybe that is all that we need to know.

Last night an angel came into my room and I don't know why. What I know is that today I feel peaceful.  Perhaps that is enough.

Two Teens Alone On The Highway

Today for the first time my oldest teenage son drove his brother and then himself to school.  He received his driver's license last week.  It is a Right of Passage in a country that has few of them.  There were my two babies, in one car, taking car of themselves.

I asked my angels to watch over them today.  The two beings I care most about in all the Universe are out there amongst the traffic and other drivers.  I want every one in the world to meet them and give me a promise that they will watch out for my children.  That they will never experience hurt or pain.  But this is not possible. Just in driving away, I know that they must and are living their own life experience. I am left at the doorstep, being thankful that I have been allowed to play the role of their mother in this life time. And wow, what a double blessing that is.

Now they are these healthy, beautiful young men: poised, intelligent, funny and so very different one from the other.  I know that I did an incredible job as a mom as they are both so wonderful. No, it wasn't so much that I formed such beautiful beings, but that I provided the space for them to become themselves. That is the most that we can offer as parents--to not get in their way.  God has created two spirits that want a chance to experience life on this planet, and I was blessed with the chance to be their mother.

I know that I will always be a part of their lives.  That some part of them will always have a use for old mom. But they don't need me to break up fights over the last can of soda, or that jumping on the sofas at IKEA is not acceptable, or throwing snowballs into a mailbox destroys the letters inside.  As they grow, they will need help with college admission forms, cheering at ballroom competitions and a comforting presence when heartbreaks occur.  Someday, I may even get to watch over my grandchildren!

This is a new phase of parenting for me and a new road of responsibility for them.  Gone are the days when they  had to sit far apart from one another so that they would not kick each other in the face while driving on the freeway.  Now they can even agree on which radio station to play. Wow.

Life brings change. Today was a big one for my family.

Namaste,

Blustery Raven Day

This morning was a Pooh and Piglet blustery day. I could picture them walking in front of me on their way to Owl's house, about to be around for the destruction of the famous tree house.  After the dwelling is destroyed from a harsh wind, Owl asks Pooh if he did that.

"I don't think so," answers Pooh.

His answer always makes me laugh.

In walking along the bay this morning, I watched an unkindness (that is what a group of ravens is called--I just googled it) of ravens attempting to land on palm tree fronds waving in the wind.  It took them awhile as this is no easy feat.  I read once that our smartest computers cannot figure out how to land something on a tree branch that is jostling about from a brisk wind.  But a bird, with the notorious bird-sized brain, can.  Imagine, a little bird is smarter than the world's smartest computer. I love that thought.

And in watching the ravens, my mind was stilled with a far-fetched but works for me, metaphor.

There is a family relative and a friend, both whom I am close to, who are in the midst of health issues.  They are being jostled about with medications, and doctors, and figuring out the best place to land so as to arrive in a place of health.  The wind is blowing from all directions and landing is not easy.

There is no answer to why the wind came, when it will stop, how hard it will blow, or from which direction it will come from.  It just appeared.

What can I do about this wind for those ravens? I ask myself.  I have no control over the wind.  I cannot reach the fronds to give them a steady place to rest.  I can only watch and hope they catch hold of something soon.

Swooping and diving, hovering and flapping, the ravens eventually find their place to perch.

Being on the ground, mesmerized with the dance they must play, I am helpless to assist them in any formal way.  I send thoughts of encouragement, love and support.  Do they know that I want them to succeed?  Does my love of the creatures that they are help them feel their way to safety?  Does a radiation of positive energy transmit to guiding ravens on their quest to end their journey?

I don't know about the ravens, as they tell me nothing.  But my relative and friend assure me that the love I send does help to ease the pain a bit. So love is what I send.

They each hold their own journey which is theirs, not mine.  My part is to be thankful that they are a part of my life, and that I have the capacity to send love, support and positive energy.

Goddess bless them both.  Angels watch over them.

And so it is.

Singing Religion

As I once heard from Michael Beckwith at one of his inspirational lectures, "someday, singing will be our religion."  His impromptu revelation came after listening to his wife, Rickie Byars Beckwith, sing her soul out to the crowded spiritual center in San Diego. She has a voice that shocks your spirit into being alive, present, and appreciative of her every lyric.

Now, I am not an old prude and I do like Rock and Roll from the Beatles and Elvis to the present day stuff my boys listen to, but sharing the gift of spiritually centered music with other like minded souls is like having a speed pass to my inner sanctuary.  When I meditate, I prefer a quiet room to myself.  When I listen to sounds designed to awaken me to my path to God, sitting in a room with others is my preferred option.  I don't know why that is, but somehow being a part of a group in which we are all enjoying ourselves brings about a more intense experience for me.  Must be the combined energy of the people moving along with the rhythm, musicians and the singer.  The energy pieces of each come together to uplift us all into an even greater force. The whole is greater than the combined individual pieces.

What I also gain is that a really good song, one that captures my breath in the first few notes, is crazy fast in getting me to a meditative state.  All of the day's ego filling up the mind with wordy crap can slip away in moments. It's like getting a fast track pass for the highway.  Once in my enlightened state, my heartbeat can pulsate along with the beat of the chords.  My breathing can relax into a consistent peace.  Roles that can cause stress and pressure are jerked out of me like a lover ripping off clothing in a moment of passion.  Yah, it is that good for me.

Of course, I am talking about live music here. A concert in which the singer is experiencing a passion for their self expression.  A singer who forgets that they are there to entertain and expands him or herself to become one with their bliss.  To share with this kind of performer in hopes of wanting a touch of the divine within is religion at its most evolved state.

Religion means to do something religiously, as in all the time. What if the whole world were singing together in a singing spiritual quest for just five minutes.  "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.  I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one"--John Lennon.

And so I sing out to you: Namaste,

Heather Leigh

Massage Through Gong

On yet another spiritual adventure, I ventured forth to a gong meditation at the spiritual center I attend last week. Sunday morning, as I was putting away the crayons, glitter glue, and crafts that we use in Sunday School, a lovely, gentle woman in a brown flowing skirt asked if I was entering the room to partake in the gong meditation.  It was a ten minute preview of what was to be offered for an hour in a few days time.

Oh, goodness, yes! I knew the Universe had once again set up my timing to ensure that I was in the place I needed to be in order to get in on that preview. Thank you, Universe, for putting together that time/space thing to boost my spiritual frequency and keep me on the path to God/Goddess.

The room was large with a plain brown carpet and a large hanging gong on one side. Chairs were placed in a circle around the gong for fellow relaxation conspirators. The gong expert quickly told us that the gong was able to produce every sound vibration in the world, thus connecting us to everything there is. In connecting through the auditory senses, we are in connection with our highest self.  I was so in now.

When she started the soulful sounds, the traffic in my mind slowed and my heart was being reached. My body sought to bridge itself to the vibrations of the gong.  Muscles relaxed and a stillness was reached. This preview had me hooked but was not long enough to move me where I wanted to be.

The instructor, Barbara Cole, has this to say about gong meditation:

The gong is an ancient instrument and it's healing vibrations can help you to:
  • Still your mind
  • Achieve a deeper state of meditation
  • Strengthen your nervous system for dealing with stress
  • support your body to heal naturally
You can contact her at:  www.projectinnerpeace.org

She also told us that our individual cells would be receiving a massage.  Some people may experience the effects by hearing sounds, such as animals, trains, or people talking. Others may feel the vibration going through their body. If there is a desire to leave the room and the experience, she said, resist doing so. This is your ego wanting to cling on to it's self-serving ways.

So by Wednesday evening, I was anxious to receive more of the gong sounds.  The room for church services held about thirty people, with most sitting on the chairs positioned in a circle starting with the gongs.  A dozen or more of us chose to lie on the ground to allow for greater relaxation. The other ground people knew to bring blankets, pillows and mats for comfort, which I will do next time.

This time there were several gongs of different sizes, all hanging from wooden frames, with gold or bronze colors.  They were beautiful and simple and powerful.

Barbara, the instructor, is a vibrant woman who radiates goodness, charm and health. Her manner and speech is accessible, personal and warm--someone you know you can trust with a gong.  When she hit the initial gong, it was set to relax and soothe and free our minds of the troubles of the day. She knew how to create space for us to reach tranquility and begin to travel to the depths of who we truly are.  Her intention was to reach each chakra, free it of any unwanted residue, and balance each one.

I experienced hearing a train sound in the beginning.  The start of my journey perhaps? As time progressed, I could feel the energies of my body that were not positive leaving. This corresponded with seeing the demon features that had attached to the negative energy that had accumulated within me. As Barbara had said might happen, my reactive state wanted to leave. I hung in there. Demons left and as they did, love was allowed to light up my true self. My body felt lighter.  Energy was heightened.

After the meditation, several people shared their experience. One woman heard seagulls, several people heard whales, and one man heard people talking.  I saw a squirrel.  Everyone felt deeply relaxed and connected to the Universe.

It lasted about forty-five minutes and I wanted more.  As the world is constantly offering blessings, she will be back at the Center in three weeks.  Barbara had told us that gong meditation is addicting and I so agree.

If any of you spiritual aficionados have the opportunity to relax through gong meditation, this author strongly recommends doing so. It was some powerful stuff.

Namaste,

Heavenly Burrito Singer

Through our apartment window we can see into the back of a burrito shop. There is a drive-thru, so we hear the orders being placed through our kitchen window. Sometimes, early in the morning, there is an employee in there who sings into the microphone from inside the restaurant. If I get up early enough (they are open 24 hours), I get a wonderful concert as he is a great singer.

Seems to me that he is not giving the world the benefit of his talents.

This is what I believe an awakened world is all about: everybody doing what they love, sharing their creativity.  While there are many who love to cook and make burritos and serve people yummy food, he is not one of them.  He would be happier entertaining us with his voice.

Stealing the idea from John Lennon, imagine all the people doing what they love.  Think how beautiful this world would be. No one would be stuck in a job that paid the bills but they got little happiness from beyond the paycheck.

There would have to be a world-wide change, by everybody, for this to happen. This is what being awakened means: everybody seeing the benefits of helping each other achieve what they they want, and being open to taking the risk of trying something new for yourself.

There will always be people who love being an accountant, serve food, work in construction. The only snag would probably be finding enough people to clean the sewage system or scrub public toilets, but if we all took turns sharing the responsibility, it would get done. Say, if we all spent a few hours a month doing public service work and the rest of the month on giving of our talents, wow, that would be a world to imagine.

Of course, the only way to achieve this utopia is if every world soul was keen on the concept. Slackers and manipulators of the system would screw it up for everyone. In order for this to work, it has to be at a Universal level.

Crazy optimist that I am, I believe that is what the human race is going toward. Every being who is awakened to our connection to the earth and each other is pulling us one step toward the heaven on earth that Jesus spoke of.

Think positive thoughts and we'll all be on that path sooner rather than later.

This goes out to the burrito shop singer: Thank you for your voice. It is a wonderful thing to wake up to!

Playful Practitioner

This morning at the Spiritual Center that I attend on Sunday mornings, I experienced a trigger of something I would like to do for children.  The Center offers courses in becoming a Practitioner, someone who learns techniques to assist others on their spiritual path.  What I want to do is to become more knowledgeable about the faith that I have known since I was a child: the power of the mind and of our thoughts. From this learning, I can incorporate awakening, awareness and love for children through stories.

The Narnia series, over the course of seven books, is really about choosing love over fear. I have written previously about the last book in which people chose love by entering an unknown shack that appears tattered small on the outside, but once they had made the choice and entered the dwelling, they found heaven on earth. C.S. Lewis, the author, wrote in a way that was entertaining. He pulled us into his land of Narnia with out ever letting on that this was really a message about accepting love.

What I see in most children's books written today that are about awakening and Divine Love is blatant messages that children tend to be bored with.  Kids want to play, read about adventure, and connect with characters.  I see adult ego at work wanting to feel that their written words are so beautiful that children will be transformed by self-help and inspiring works.  That's not the way of the child.

My vision is to create a nest for my self and my family, a comfortable home, from which I can spend my energies creating stories that will interweave messages of love through story telling.  And I don't want the Little Buggers to ever suspect a thing!

Anyone reading this, please take a moment to share this vision with me. As Jesus was quoted: 'For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.' For me this means that the more of us who are sharing a vision, the more love energy is present for us all.

May you be as playful as a child today,

Heather Leigh
